Friday — Tama River Sakura 🌸 → Grocery → Prof Craig 2–5pm → Nakameguro Lanterns

📸 First Insta360 shoot · 🌸 Gasubashi 21st Century Sakura (15min walk!) · Grocery · Training · Nakameguro lanterns at dusk

🥋 Training 2–5pm
🌸 8:00am
YOUR backyard sakura — and one of Ota City's finest. This is the "21st Century Sakura" green space along the Tama River embankment, officially listed by Ota City as a top cherry blossom destination. It's a 15-minute walk from your base — no train needed.

Why it's special: ~120 Somei Yoshino trees line the Tama River cycling path along the embankment. Unlike famous spots (no crowds), the trees form a long corridor with wide-open river views, wind off the water carrying petals, cyclists and joggers weaving through blossoms — a pure, authentic Tokyo local sakura experience. At full bloom today, the petals should be drifting onto the path.

Continue south along the embankment toward Tamagawadai Park (another 15min walk) where 300+ cherry trees cover the hillside park with views of the river.
📍 How to get there: Walk north from your base (~15min) toward the Tama River embankment near the Canon Building / Shimo-maruko Bridge. Follow the cycling path. FREE. No transit. Open 24hrs.
📸 Insta360 Ace Pro 2 shots here:
Ultra-wide tunnel shot: Stand in the middle of the cycling path facing the cherry tree corridor. Activate the ultra-wide lens and walk slowly toward camera on Explorer grip — gets the full canopy arch overhead.
Low grip river shot: Hold Explorer grip at ankle height while walking along the embankment, river on one side, trees on the other. AI will stabilise beautifully.
Petal drift hyperlapse: Set camera on ground or prop on railing aimed up through branches. 5-min hyperlapse as petals drift. This is the keeper shot.

🌸 9:00am
20 cherry trees lining a famous sloping street with a red pedestrian bridge. Featured in a Masaharu Fukuyama song. Quiet, residential, purely local. A short walk south from the river embankment — combine as one morning loop from your base.
📸 Insta360 here: Stand at the bottom of the slope and use the wide-angle mode facing uphill — the red bridge frames the cherry canopy perfectly. Try a slow-motion walk up the slope with the Explorer grip held out front at chest height.

🌸 6:00pm
Illuminated 5pm–8pm until March 31 — tonight is one of your only chances. 800 cherry trees over the canal, paper lanterns reflected in dark water. Peak full bloom. Tokyo's most photogenic sakura spot.
📸 Insta360 golden shots here:
Reflection shot: Get low on the canal bridge railing, wide-angle aimed downstream — captures cherry canopy, lanterns AND their water reflections in one frame.
Walk-through tunnel: Hold Explorer grip overhead, arm fully extended, walking along the river path. AI stabilisation makes this silky smooth — the overhanging blossoms fill the frame.
Burst mode candid: Street photography mode — shoot locals doing hanami, food stall vendors, couples under lanterns. The wide-angle catches everyone naturally without pointing directly at people.

This is the whole strategy. Haneda is 15 minutes away — take a taxi directly (same ¥400 as arrival night, luggage too heavy to train). Drop ALL bags at the Haneda T3 staffed counter or coin lockers on 2F Arrival Lobby the moment you arrive. You're now completely hands-free for the next 10+ hours.

At T3 2F Arrival Lobby:
— Look for "Baggage Storage" / "手荷物預り所" signs
— Staffed counter: ¥600–1,200/bag · Open 5am–midnight · Get a receipt
— Coin lockers: ¥300–800 · Open 24hrs · Keep the locker key on your person
— Also: JAL ABC counter at T3 for larger/special items
💡 Pro tip: Use coin lockers for anything you might need mid-day (light jacket, Insta360 charger). Put the big heavy suitcases at the staffed counter. This costs ¥1,200–2,400 total — the best RM40–80 you'll spend all trip.

🚉 Bags Stored — Now Decide Your Day
You have roughly 10 hours completely free. Pick what you haven't done yet — or simply rest. Some options ranked by energy level:
😴 Low energy — local
Stay near Haneda/Ota area. Haneda T3 itself has great shopping and food on 4F "Edo Market" — ramen, sushi, tempura, Japanese sweets. Decent last Japan meal without going into the city.
⚡ Medium — Odaiba
Home → Osaki → Rinkai line → Odaiba (45min, ¥620). LEGOLAND closes 6pm — open until 5pm for last admission. Minecraft store closes 8pm. Unicorn Gundam FREE any time.
🛍️ Medium — Shibuya
Any last shopping. Shibuya Sky sunset slot. Final Nintendo Tokyo, Kiddy Land, or any missed shops. Gyumon Wagyu Ramen for final lunch if you missed it.
🌸 Peaceful — Tamagawadai
One final relaxed hanami in the park. Cook at... wait, no kitchen. Konbini picnic on the river embankment under cherry blossoms. The young warrior deserves a quiet afternoon.
Depends on choice
6:00pm
🍜 Final Halal Dinner — Near Haneda or in City
Eat properly before the flight — airline food is unpredictable. Options depending on where you end the day:
Haneda T3 4F dining floor: Not halal-certified but has fish/seafood/vegetarian options safely
Zaika Pakistani (nearby area): If heading back that way — final naan and curry
Konbini meal on the go: Pick up onigiri, karaage chicken, soba — pack extras for the flight
Aim to finish eating and be done with the city by 8:00pm.
🕌 Eat before check-in
¥1,500–3,000

🛫 9:00pm
Timeline working backwards from 11:50pm:
9:00pm — Arrive T3, collect bags from storage (2F Arrival Lobby)
9:15pm — Proceed to Departure Hall (3F), check in at airline counter
9:45pm — Security screening + immigration (allow 30–45min at international)
10:30pm — Airside — final duty-free shopping, gate area
11:20pm — Board
11:50pm — ✈️ Wheels up
✅ Haneda is famous for being fast and efficient. International check-in desks open 3hrs before (8:50pm) but 9pm arrival is very comfortable. Security at Haneda is typically 15–20 min for international. You have plenty of buffer.
Getting back to T3: From anywhere in central Tokyo → Keikyu Kamata → Haneda T3 (¥370, 10min). Or taxi from nearby (~¥400–600).

🇯🇵 → 🇲🇾 Sayonara, Tokyo
The young warrior came to Tokyo, trained under world-class BJJ coaches, competed at the Asia Jiu Jitsu Cup, walked under full-bloom cherry trees at Haneda's doorstep, hunted watches in Nakano Broadway, grappled with kids from across Asia, and saw the Unicorn Gundam transform at Odaiba. Not bad for one week.

📌 Essential Tips

🚇 Getting Around
  • Google Maps Transit mode is perfectly accurate for Tokyo trains
  • Stand LEFT on escalators, walk right
  • Trains are silent — no calls, quiet voices only
  • Last trains ~midnight. After that: taxi or S.RIDE app
  • GO App needs Japanese number — use S.RIDE or DiDi instead
  • Your home base is on Tokyu Tamagawa + Ikegami Lines
  • Haneda Airport is only 15–20 min from your base
🛍️ Shopping
  • Show PASSPORT at checkout for tax-free (8–10% back) on ¥5,500+ at same store
  • Don't open sealed tax-free bags until you leave Japan
  • ISAMI: 4F, enter via parking garage, take elevator up
  • Nakano Broadway watch shops: open from 11am on the dot
  • Time Walker charges 3.5% card fee — weigh cash vs card for watch
  • Bring tote bag — plastic bags cost ¥5–10 at most shops
🕌 Halal & Food
  • Stock grocery on Thursday — Chandra Surya is CLOSED Saturday
  • 7-Eleven ATMs accept Malaysian cards (most reliable)
  • Convenience store onigiri = good quick halal meal (tuna/salmon/kombu)
  • Use HalalGo app for finding halal spots in real time
  • Tokyo Camii mosque in Yoyogi-Uehara, 5 min from Shibuya
  • Prayer rooms at Gyumon Shibuya & Honolu Grande Akihabara
  • Check labels for 豚肉 (pork) and アルコール (alcohol)
👦 For Your 8-Year-Old
  • Budget ¥2,000–3,000/day for gashapon — he will want them ALL
  • Nintendo Store closes at 9pm — loads of time after training
  • Keep him awake until 8pm on arrival day to beat jet lag
  • Train voice = indoor voice. Japan is very quiet in public
  • Competition day: light breakfast, familiar food only
  • Coin lockers at Komazawa station for gear storage
🎌 Etiquette
  • No eating while walking — find a spot and stop
  • Carry a small bag for rubbish — almost no public bins
  • Remove shoes when you see a step up at any entrance
  • Both hands when giving or receiving anything
  • Never tip — it can be considered rude in Japan
  • Taxis: door opens/closes automatically. Don't touch it!
  • Tap water is safe and delicious everywhere in Japan
📱 Apps & Tech
  • Google Maps — perfect transit directions including exit numbers
  • Google Translate camera — point at menus to translate instantly
  • Download Japanese offline language pack before departure
  • S.RIDE or DiDi app for taxis (accept Malaysian numbers)
  • Airalo eSIM for data — buy before leaving Malaysia
  • Your Malaysian number stays active — WhatsApp works normally
  • Load Wise with RM3,000–4,000 before departure

📸 Insta360 Ace Pro 2 — Tokyo Street Photography Guide

📷
Your setup: Insta360 Ace Pro 2 + Explorer grip. This is actually one of the best combinations for Japan street photography — the wide-angle is non-threatening (people don't feel "pointed at"), the AI stabilisation handles walking shots perfectly, and the Explorer grip gives you creative low/high angles that traditional cameras can't. Japan is also extremely permissive for public photography in parks, streets and festivals.
🌸 Sakura Photography
Tama River Gasubashi (Fri morning)
Hold grip at ground level pointing up through cherry trees as you walk. The sky + blossoms + wide-angle = spectacular. Also try: set camera on the embankment railing, step back, let petals drift across the lens.
Nakameguro at night (Fri evening)
Reflection shot from bridge: grip at railing height, angled 45° downward — captures lanterns + cherry canopy + water reflection simultaneously. The AI low-light handles this beautifully.
Chidorigafuchi (Sat morning)
Walk the 700m promenade slowly with grip held arm's length ahead — the cherry tunnel overhead is a perfect wide-angle corridor shot. Try a hyperlapse of the full walk.
Ueno Park (Mon early)
Crowd + blossoms together. Hold Explorer grip above head in the main avenue — captures the scale of 1,000+ trees with people below. Set to burst mode to capture candid moments.
🏙️ Tokyo Street Photography
Shibuya Scramble (Mon after training)
Stand in the centre of the scramble crossing mid-walk. Hold Explorer grip at hip height, wide-angle, and walk across. Captures the chaos from within it. Also try from a konbini window above — look for 7-Eleven on the 2nd floor overlooking the crossing.
Akihabara electric strip (Mon)
Walk the main Chuo-dori with grip held out front, neon signs and anime banners everywhere. The wide lens catches the full visual overload. Shoot at dusk when neon kicks in.
Nakano Broadway 3F (Sat)
Tight corridors of glass watch cases + overhead fluorescent light = great documentary shot. Keep grip low at waist level — less intrusive, more candid feel.
Yurikamome monorail to Odaiba (Mon)
Sit at the front window seat (no driver — driverless train). Grip against the glass, wide-angle. The elevated track over Tokyo Bay with Rainbow Bridge is a cinematic shot, especially at sunset heading to Odaiba.
🥋 Competition + BJJ Shots
Competition day (Sun) — Komazawa Park
Wide-angle of the venue exterior with cherry blossoms framing the 1964 Olympics gymnasium — a very special shot. Capture the young warrior warming up in his GI with sakura visible through the windows if possible.
Mat-level shots
Set camera on the edge of the mat (if allowed) with wide-angle. Even 30 seconds of competition footage in ultra-wide is something he'll treasure forever. Check with tournament organizers first.
Post-match emotion
The Insta360's burst mode is perfect for capturing the moment after a match — win or lose. The wide-angle catches everything: the handshake, the coach, the parent, the exhaustion, the joy. These are the frames that matter.
Training at Carpe Diem (Fri)
Ask if you can film a short clip of the drilling session. Mat-level angle on Explorer grip during a roll sequence is documentary gold. Pair with the wide exterior shot of Jiyugaoka for context.
⌚ Watch Hunt + Shopping
Nakano Broadway approach (Sat)
Walk from Nakano station toward Broadway — overhead shop signs, packed shopping street, locals going about their day. Hold grip at chest height walking naturally. The AI captures it all without you needing to look at the screen.
Watch case detail shots
The Ace Pro 2's macro-capable wide lens can get incredibly close to watch faces in display cases. Get the glass reflection + your face + the watch all in one wide frame — a very "collector" shot. Ask permission at FireKids (Anton/Kyara are known to be friendly).
Harajuku Cat Street (Mon)
The narrow backstreet between Harajuku and Omotesando (Ura-Harajuku) where Studio D'Artisan and sneaker boutiques are. Excellent street photography: narrow lane, curated storefronts, fashion-conscious locals. Hold grip low at hip for a "street level" perspective.
🎮 Kids + Action Shots
Gashapon machines (Mon)
Point Ace Pro 2 at the capsule machine from below as the young warrior inserts coins and turns the handle. Ultra-wide captures the whole wall of machines + his excitement simultaneously — no need to zoom.
Nintendo Tokyo (Mon)
Get him standing next to a life-size Mario/Link statue — hold grip at the statue's chest height, wide-angle captures both him and the full statue without stepping back far. Perfect for the cramped store space.
Unicorn Gundam transformation (Mon)
Set the Ace Pro 2 on burst mode or video during the hourly transformation. Wide-angle from ground level pointed up captures the full 20m robot against the sky. If you can, set the camera on the ground directly below it — the ultra-wide distortion makes it look 100m tall.
teamLab Borderless (Sat/Mon)
The immersive rooms were designed to be photographed. Wide-angle + slow movement with Explorer grip = the rooms "wrap around" you in the footage. Set to video mode and just walk through slowly — no need to think about framing.
💡 Insta360 Ace Pro 2 Settings
For sakura in daylight
4K 30fps · Ultra-wide lens · Horizon Steady ON · Auto exposure. The cherry blossoms are bright whites/pinks — tap to expose for the sky slightly to avoid blown highlights.
For night scenes (Nakameguro lanterns)
4K 24fps · PureVideo night mode ON · ISO limit to 1600 · Steady+ ON. The Ace Pro 2's f/1.8 aperture handles lantern light beautifully — don't bump ISO too high or it gets noisy.
For action / street
2.7K 60fps (smooth slow-mo in edit) · AI tracking OFF for street candids (less conspicuous). Explorer grip at waist height, camera facing forward — you can shoot without looking like you're shooting.
Explorer grip technique
Extend the grip fully (selfie pole length) and hold it OUT to the side at arm's length — you get a completely different perspective than everyone else's phone shots. Rotate the camera upward 45° for overhead cherry canopy shots without raising your arm above your head.

💡 Japan photography etiquette: Shrines (Meiji Jingu) ask you not to photograph prayer areas or inside the main hall. Asking permission before photographing individuals is appreciated though rarely enforced outdoors. Competition venues may restrict filming — check with organizers. All outdoor public spaces and street scenes are completely fine to photograph freely.
